The essentials at a glance
Tour starts Sunday at 10:00 at Södertälje Syd railway station.
Tour ends Thursday at approximately 15:30 at Nyköping railway station.
Carry a 20-25 litre daypack; your main bag is transferred and must weigh no more than 10 kg.
The route is not alpine, but forest paths, rock, roots and boardwalks require fitness, sure-footedness and suitable footwear.
Book flights or other non-refundable travel only after the tour has been confirmed, and allow generous time margin
Before booking and before departure
Travel documents and entry requirements
EU travellers can generally enter Sweden with a valid national identity card or passport. Check the requirements for your nationality in good time and confirm that your documents remain valid. Keep booking documents, insurance details and essential telephone numbers available digitally and, if possible, offline.
Health and personal requirements
The active days follow one another without a rest day. Tell us early about allergies, dietary intolerances, regular medication or health limitations that could affect participation. If you are unsure whether the tour suits you, seek medical advice.
Cancellation and curtailment insurance
We strongly recommend travel cancellation insurance and cover for cutting a trip short. Overseas medical insurance should include repatriation and active walking holidays. Check cover limits, excess, exclusions and the deadline for purchasing the policy. Include independently booked travel and extra accommodation.
How to prepare physically
There are no major climbs. The challenge comes from varied natural surfaces and several consecutive active days. Ideally begin six to eight weeks before departure.
Build endurance
Walk briskly or hike two to three times a week. Gradually extend one outing to three to five hours. On at least two occasions, walk longer routes on two consecutive days.
Train strength and stability
Once or twice a week, add simple exercises for legs, glutes, core and ankles: squats, lunges, calf raises and single-leg balance. They help on roots, rock and boardwalks.
Test your equipment
Break in your boots and test socks, rainwear and daypack. Complete a longer walk carrying the weight you expect to have each day. A rainy practice walk is useful too.
A simple 6-week plan
Weeks 1-2 2 brisk sessions of 45-75 minutes, 1 walk of 2-3 hours, 1 short strength/balance session.
Weeks 3-4 2 sessions of 60-90 minutes, 1 walk of 3-4 hours on natural trails, 2 short strength/balance sessions.
Week 5 Back-to-back walks: two consecutive days of 3-5 hours with your daypack.
Week 6 Reduce volume, complete final footwear and equipment checks, and keep activity easy.
Plan travel to Södertälje and onward travel from Nyköping
The tour starts and ends in different towns. Plan both your journey to the meeting point and your onward journey from the finish to Stockholm, the airport or your next hotel.
By train and public transport
Södertälje Syd and Nyköping are connected to regional rail and bus services. International rail travellers normally continue via Stockholm. Recheck the exact connection shortly before departure and leave a generous transfer margin when tickets are booked separately.
By air
Stockholm Arlanda is the main arrival airport. Continue by rail, with a connection if required, to the meeting point. The tour finishes around 15:30 in Nyköping; only book a same-evening flight with ample contingency time. An extra night is often more relaxed.
By car
Because the start and finish differ, driving is less convenient. Confirm parking duration and charges, then plan the public-transport journey back to your vehicle. Do not leave valuables visible in the car.
Extra nights before and after the tour
An extra night reduces time pressure and protects your plans against delays.
Before the tour: Södertälje or Stockholm
Arriving the previous day and staying in Södertälje makes for an easy start. Choose Stockholm if you want to combine the hike with a city break. Pick accommodation with a convenient Sunday connection to Södertälje Syd.
After the tour: Nyköping or Stockholm
A night in Nyköping creates a relaxed finish and may suit an early flight the next day. Alternatively continue to Stockholm. An additional night after the tour can be requested; availability and the current price will be confirmed.
