Who is this tour for?
This version is designed for hikers with mountain-walking experience who want to experience the classic Oberstdorf-Merano route while enjoying professional organisation, guiding, comfortable accommodation and daily luggage transfer. Good general fitness, sure-footedness and enjoyment of multi-day mountain walking are important.
Fitness
Ascents and descents of up to 1,200 vertical metres, with a maximum walking time of 4 to 6 hours per day, depending on the weather, trail conditions and the fitness of the group. Longer breaks are usually taken after around 1 to 2 hours of walking.
Technical requirements
You will mainly hike on moderately difficult mountain trails, which are mostly narrow and steep. Occasional rocky and exposed sections are well secured with steel cables and may require the use of your hands from time to time. Depending on weather and snow conditions in the mountains, the ground can be slippery. For these tours, you should already have hiking experience and be sure-footed with a good head for heights.

Accommodation & Meals
Accommodation
This is a comfort tour, which means that we stay in guesthouses or hotels. As a rule, we use double rooms; in exceptional cases, triple rooms or apartments with two bedrooms and a shared bathroom may also be used. Solo travellers are accommodated with people of the same gender. Single rooms can only be allocated on request, subject to availability and usually at very short notice. A surcharge of €40.00 per night applies. Unfortunately, we cannot always guarantee a private bathroom for every single room.
Meals
At the accommodation, we are well catered for with half board. Vegetarian meals are also possible; please state this when booking, no later than two weeks before the start of the tour. Along the way, there are often welcoming places to stop for refreshments, or you can arrange a packed lunch in the morning for an additional charge. It is therefore sufficient to bring enough to drink and a small snack, such as an energy bar, for the start of the tour. Your guide will advise you on the following tour days.

About the region and the E5
The European long-distance trail E5 is one of Europe’s major long-distance walking routes. The complete trail runs for around 3,200 kilometres from the Atlantic coast of Brittany in France, across the Alps and onwards to Verona in Italy.
Its best-known Alpine section leads from Oberstdorf in the Allgäu to Merano in South Tyrol. Along the way, mountain passes, valleys, Alpine landscapes and vegetation zones change within a remarkably short distance. This variety is what makes the E5 Alps crossing one of the most memorable walking experiences in the Alpine region.
On this comfortable version, you walk the central E5 stages with a guide and luggage transfer - ideal if you want to enjoy the Alpine crossing intensively but with strong organisation in the background.
