Hiking around the Civetta in the Dolomites
A challenging hut to hut trek through Civetta, Moiazza, Tamer and Sasso Bianco
This guided journey circles Civetta in several hut-to-hut stages. Its immense north-west face accompanies the group from changing viewpoints before the route continues into the quieter neighbouring groups of Moiazza, Tamer and Sasso Bianco.
Part of the tour follows Alta Via 1. Beneath Civetta’s rock walls, the route reaches Rifugio Vazzoler and continues to Passo Duran. From there the trails become more remote and less frequently used.
The final part focuses on Rocca Pietore and Sasso Bianco. The small Rifugio Sasso Bianco stands high above the valley opposite Civetta’s north-west face. On the next day, Sasso Bianco is climbed or circled before returning via Forcella S’ciota.

Itinerary
Route section 1: Pala Favera to Rifugio Coldai
The group climbs from Pala Favera to Rifugio Coldai, beginning the multi-day hut-to-hut circuit around Civetta.
Route section 2: Below Civetta to Passo Duran
From Rifugio Coldai, the route follows a particularly attractive section of Alta Via 1. It passes beneath Civetta’s immense rock walls to Rifugio Vazzoler and then continues to Passo Duran.
Route section 3: Moiazza and Tamer
The trails become much quieter in Moiazza and around the Tamer group. Rugged mountain landscapes and solitude characterise this part of the journey. A demanding circuit around Cima Nord di San Sebastiano leads into the remote scenery of these neighbouring mountains.
Route section 4: Rocca Pietore to Rifugio Sasso Bianco
For the final part of the tour, the group moves to Rocca Pietore. From there it climbs to the small Rifugio Sasso Bianco, which occupies a quiet, panoramic position high above the valley directly opposite Civetta’s north-west face.

About the region
Civetta is one of the most impressive massifs in the Dolomites. Its immense north-west face shapes the landscape far beyond Val di Zoldo and appears from changing perspectives during the tour. The route circles Civetta and also enters the much quieter neighbouring groups of Moiazza, Tamer and Sasso Bianco. Rugged mountain scenery, less-frequented paths and a greater sense of solitude characterise this part of the journey. Rifugio Sasso Bianco stands high above the valley with views directly towards Civetta’s north-west face.
