Hiking holidays in Austria – three tours, three Alpine experiences
Austria’s mountains can be experienced in very different ways: from a comfortable hotel base in East Tyrol, on a demanding section of the Adlerweg, or during a quieter traverse of the Lechquell Alps. Sörmland Outdoor offers three organised hiking holidays, making it easier to choose the landscape, level, accommodation and style of journey that suit you
Three ways to discover Austria on foot
Five Lakes hiking week in East Tyrol
For active walkers who want rewarding mountain days and the comfort of returning to the same hotel in Lienz each evening. Five guided walks visit mountain lakes, contrasting valleys and Hohe Tauern National Park.
7 days · 5 walks · hotel base · approx. 4–6 hours/day
Following the Adlerweg
A demanding hut-to-hut tour on the Lechtal High Trail for experienced mountain walkers. Long days, exposed sections and simple mountain huts make this the most intensely Alpine of the three journeys.
6 days · 5 hut nights · up to 7–9 hours/day
Lechquell Traverse
A guided multi-day hike through the Lechquell Alps in Vorarlberg. Varied high trails, mountain lakes and a combination of huts and an inn bring together unspoilt scenery and expert organisation.
6 days · huts and inn · up to 7–9 hours/day

Explore Austria on foot: from East Tyrol to Vorarlberg
These three tours reveal contrasting parts of the Austrian Alps. Around Lienz, the Hohe Tauern meet the dramatic Lienz Dolomites. The Adlerweg journey follows the Lechtal High Trail through the Northern Limestone Alps. The Lechquell Traverse crosses the headwaters of the River Lech in Vorarlberg, passing lakes, high trails and traditional Alpine pastures.
Guided hiking with the right support
All three holidays are professionally guided. Sörmland Outdoor is your contact for information and enquiries; operations are handled with our experienced partners according to the tour. Confirmed booking documents govern current dates, prices, availability and included services.
Hotel or mountain hut: choose your preferred comfort
On the Five Lakes week, your main luggage stays at the hotel in Lienz. Each day brings a different walk, followed by the comfort of your own room. The Adlerweg and Lechquell routes are true traverses: you move from one accommodation to the next and stay mainly in simple huts, usually in shared rooms or dormitories.
Assess fitness and Alpine experience honestly
The Five Lakes week requires sound basic fitness and normal sure-footedness but is technically much more moderate. The Adlerweg and Lechquell tours are designed for experienced mountain walkers with good stamina, sure-footedness and a head for heights. Consecutive hiking days, long descents, changing weather and secure movement on Alpine paths all matter.
Travelling to your hiking holiday in Austria
Lienz is the base for the Five Lakes week and has convenient rail connections. The Lechquell Traverse starts in Hirschegg in the Kleinwalsertal; the Adlerweg tour starts in Boden in Tyrol’s Lech Valley. Check the detailed journey early and consider an extra night before or after the tour if travelling a long distance.
