About the region and the E5
The European long-distance trail E5 is one of the best-known long-distance walking routes in the Alpine region. The full route covers around 3,200 kilometres, leading from the Atlantic coast of Brittany in France across the Alps and onwards to Verona in Italy.
Its most famous Alpine section leads from Oberstdorf in the Allgäu to Merano in South Tyrol. Along the way, mountain ranges, valleys, passes and vegetation zones change within a short distance. This variety is what makes the E5 one of the great walking experiences in the Alps.
For solo travellers, this version is particularly appealing because it combines an intense mountain experience with professional organisation and companionship. You travel individually to the starting point, but during the tour you are part of a small guided group.
